Tamara Brown, Executive Administrative Assistant II, Office of the Dean, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Since joining UMBC in 1999, Tamara Brown has been dedicated to serving the campus and its partners with the utmost exceptionalism.

Brown’s extensive knowledge and mastery of administrative processes and procedures has been instrumental in supporting the academic functions across the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Since joining the dean’s office in 2007, Brown has taken a lead role coordinating all aspects, stages, and levels of the promotion and tenure process for the College. To help faculty with this complex—and often stressful—process, Brown organizes and conducts a series of dossier workshops each spring and summer to explain the document requirements, format, and arrangement. Faculty members praise Brown for her attention to detail and empathy and sensitivity in supporting them as they navigate the intricate, labor-intensive process.

Her expertise also extends to many other administrative tasks, such as payroll, inventory control, P-card use and reconciliation, hiring, appointments, and reappointments. A representative of the dean’s office and first point of contact for departments, chairs and directors applaud her commitment to supporting faculty matters and her exceptional care and grace when responding to questions of logistics, procedure, and policy.
