Michele Kimery, Executive Administrative Assistant, Human Resources
Michele Kimery has worked in several key administrative positions since joining the UMBC community in 2001, including the Department of Human Resources, Office of Financial Services, Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance, and the Office of the President. She has excelled in each role, demonstrating a deep commitment to helping others while providing outstanding service and support to UMBC colleagues and students.
Soon after joining Human Resources, Kimery spearheaded the reorganization of the department’s filing system and implemented a new, more sustainable system that is now managed by a student employee under her supervision. Recognizing the importance of a welcoming environment for new employees, she also developed a document outlining best practices and procedures for introducing new employees to the workplace. The document is now widely used across campus and viewed as a valuable resource for supervisors.
She also serves in a leadership role on UMBC’s Service Awards Committee, a group charged with planning an annual event to recognize employees and their years of service to UMBC and the State of Maryland. In this capacity, Kimery is responsible for managing and organizing the annual event, which sees more than 400 faculty and staff in attendance.
She regularly goes above and beyond the requirements of her position to find ways of supporting others and improving day-to-day operations. Her meticulous oversight of departmental procedures involves detailed, multi-year planning, and she is always watchful for ways to increase efficiency.
