Jamie Gurganus ‘04, M.S. ‘11, Ph.D. ‘20, Faculty, Mechanical Engineering; Associate Director, Engineering Education Initiatives; and Director, Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning
Jamie Gurganus explores teaching and learning through the lens of the stages students move through as they develop as learners. She creates multiple ways for students to learn, including active and problem-based learning, service-learning projects, and peer teaching. Her creativity and innovation helps students understand how they learn and what they can accomplish. Students appreciate her ability to take challenging engineering topics and make them fun and easier to understand by using real-world situations. Gurganus draws on her own experiences as a woman in engineering to work to enhance and change the culture from within. She earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from UMBC.
