2023 – 2024 Presidential Distinguished Non-Exempt Staff
Laura A. Weathers ’80, M.A. ’87, Library Services Supervisor, Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery
Laura is an invaluable member of the Albin O. Kuhn Library team. She joined UMBC as a student in African American studies and a library volunteer, and has been serving the UMBC community as part of the library staff since 1983. She has largely contributed to the early adoption of the online catalog and specializes in online serials holdings to the catalog. In addition to managing the complexity of online catalogs, she was instrumental in making sure that three phases of the physical moving of the collection were done in a timely and consistent manner, and recorded and updated accordingly. The final, IV Phase of the serials collection project is almost completed thanks to her planning and communication skills. Laura earned her bachelor’s degree in Afro-American studies in 1980 and her master’s in history in 1987, both from UMBC.
