Professor of the Practice, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering

E. F. Charles (Chuck) LaBerge,  Ph.D. ’03, electrical engineering, has served as professor of the practice of computer science and electrical engineering for 15 years at UMBC. Prior to that, he served as a lecturer and adjunct assistant professor for several years. He has served in a variety of engineering roles in the aerospace research and technology organizations of Honeywell and its predecessor companies for more than three decades before joining UMBC. LaBerge’s teaching ranges from Intro to Engineering through graduate courses in electrical engineering. Since 2010, he has taught the two-semester capstone course for computer engineers and, more recently, as a multidisciplinary offering for selected students in mechanical engineering and computer science as well. LaBerge has previously been recognized for teaching excellence at the college and USM levels, and, in 2023, received the Outstanding Faculty Award by the UMBC Alumni Association.
