Ali Tokay
Research Professor, GESTAR/Geography and Environmental Systems

Ali Tokay received his doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993. He was a postdoctoral research associate at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for nearly two years and an assistant professor at Saint Louis University before joining UMBC in 1997. Tokay was assistant and associate research professor under Joint Center for Earth Systems Technology (JCET) at UMBC until 2022. He was also affiliated with the Department of Geography and Environmental Systems (GES) where he teaches an upper-level undergraduate class, Weather and Climate. Tokay is currently a research professor in Goddard Earth Science Technology and Research (GESTAR). He is also a member of NASA Global Precipitation Measurement mission ground validation program. Tokay has worked with 25 interns and 10 visiting graduate students. Among those, the most recent interns, Connor Mahone and Amalie Rebstock, both UMBC GES undergraduates, are funded through a funded proposal to the Maryland Space Grant Consortium.
